Presidents’ Message

Greetings Garden Club Members,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 Year of the Bedford Garden Club!  Our members are continuing the tradition of sharing their knowledge and love of gardening as well as working together to achieve our goals that were established when this club was started in 1935. Our educational programs, workshops, and other events help to promote our membership’s knowledge, gardening ideas, as well as love for all aspects of gardening. Article II of the Bylaws defines the club’s objectives:

“1. Study horticulture, conservation and other garden-related subjects. AND

2. Promote civic landscape improvement within the Bedford Community.”

This past June, the club had a very successful Garden Tour, “Follow the Blooms”, which featured 8 unique gardens. The committee worked tirelessly to make this a very memorable event and so many gardening ideas sprouted from this tour. In July, club members also visited Sanborn Mills Farm in Loudon, NH to view a working farm that provides opportunities to learn traditional crafts and their ongoing development of gardens to support pollinators. We also had the pleasure of having a wonderful lunch prepared with local, fresh ingredients.

This summer, our co-vice presidents Arlene Munson and Kathy Nelson have diligently worked on our meeting programs, workshops and field trips. Please check out the offerings in the yearbook and join us in learning more about the gardening world. A new membership social is planned in late August to welcome new members and provide information on the club’s mission, goals, and objectives.

We will also continue the tradition of the Holiday Wreath Decorating Workshop that provides an opportunity for many members to decorate 13-15 holiday wreaths that will be disbursed throughout the town of Bedford.

Our major fundraisers, the Mum Plant Sale in August/September and the May Plant Sale are successful because we have very dedicated members chairing these fundraisers. Yet, volunteers at these events support these chairpersons and make their workload so much lighter. It is not just with these fundraisers, but also with all of our other committees and community gardens that this energy, spirit and vitality support the Bedford Garden Club’s mission. Volunteering is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our fellow gardeners.

Thank you to all the board members and committee chairs who have worked through the summer to provide a great start to our wonderful club! We are looking forward to another exciting and educational year.

Warm regards,

Linda Browne and Susan Moreau,

Co-Presidents, 2024-2025
