Community Garden
The Bedford Village Common is the largest community garden maintained by the Bedford Garden Club. It is a community park located along Route 101 at the corner of Bell Hill Road. The Club designed and planted the perennial gardens in this park in 2013. The plantings were chosen to enhance the natural look of the park. At the entrance to the park, a beautiful wooden pergola, donated by BGC, sits between two garden areas: a hillside garden and a flower garden. A donor’s plaque and black urns are part of the setting. In 2017, the club initiated a special project to further enhance the gardens. The hillside garden was redesigned and replanted to include more trees, shrubs and grasses, providing interest throughout the year. The flower garden, with its weeping cherry tree, received additional perennial plantings selected for their color, form and texture. Together the pergola and gardens provide a welcoming and interesting entrance to the Town of Bedford’s newest community garden. These public areas are located where many residents and non-residents alike can view them in passing. In conjunction with the Town of Bedford, the Club has generated interest in the commitment to continually beautify these areas.
